Abstract
This historical novel revolves around three of Robert Peary's and Frederick Cook's real-life expeditions to the Arctic. It is told through the voice of Devlin Stead, a fictional young orphan raised by his aunt and uncle in St. John's, Newfoundland, after his father abandoned him and went to Labrador to minister to the Inuit and his mother committed suicide. Eventually, Devlin sailed from St. John's to New York to become the protégé of Cook and accompanied Cook on his expeditions to reach the North Pole.
